Mute Swans

Eastport, Maryland.  ”Mute swans were introduced to North America in the late 1800s as decorations for parks, zoos and private estates. Between 1910 and 1912, over 500 mute swans were imported from Europe and Asia. However, a small number of these birds escaped into the wild.” Chesapeake Bay Program. Inspector

While painting an old piece of furniture outside in Columbia, Maryland, this little inspector landed for a second on the tarp and then took off. It was about the size of a human adult thumb.

Scales & Tales

Scales & Tales, under the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, is an environmental education program of the Maryland Park Service which affords people the opportunity to see live wildlife, mostly native to Maryland, up close and personal.  This little owl is blind in one eye but still alert and perky!

Doux Dog
