Yellow Spanish Painter

Somewhere in the back alley’s of Spain a man spends his days painting over the graffiti.  He looked very angry to me.  But, this was probably because I was there shooting the street art he was trying to cover up.  The yellow outfit and reflection from the wall onto the ladder really bring you into this image.

Light Pink Stove House

Brasil:  roughly translated, the sign above the door says:  Stove Conservation.  You can see around five layers of crumbling color on the house.  It’s perfect.

A Moment Of Bliss

On a trip to the Dominican Republic Liza enjoys a moment of pure bliss.

Kindling And Limb Wood

Every once in a while I come across a photo I love and cannot remember where I took it.  This drives me crazy.  And, this is why GPS is now in cameras – I’m sure of it.  Years ago, on a very long traveling spree this image was snapped.  In most mountainous regions the kindling and limb wood were on the honor system – no one is there to collect your money, you just take what you need, leave your money in an old tin jar that is chained to a tree, and carry on.

California Bait Dock

On a chilly night in San Diego a bunch of us went on a quick boat ride to see the sea lions on bait docks.  They were loud and lazy and made me laugh.  You can also see pelicans and herons hanging out with them too.  According to The Marine Mammal Center male sea lions average 850 pounds and 7 feet in length.

Curves And Windows

Munich, Germany.  I believe this was the first photo I shot after getting off the train – Its grand curve and perfect windows make you want to stay forever!

French Reflection

I am currently reading ‘White Truffles in Winter‘ by N.M. Kelby.  A beautifully delicious novel based in France – which has forced me to look through my archived photos of France (poor me – I know.)  Although this image does not remind me of the book, I am having a fling with Paris in my head at the moment so I think it works well.  I love this image for the reflection, the bold colors, the lines, and how it reminds me of the meal I ate right after it was shot – so maybe it does fit in with the book? Parfaite!

DeFever 46

Over the years some of the joy I get from shooting photos is actually seeing pictures used in print publications (print is not dead!)  Below are 2 spreads from PassageMaker Magazine for a story on the DeFever 46 by Robert M. Lane in the November/December 2011 Issue.  These images were shot in Anacortes, WA.

Gray Be Gone!

A few shots from Shelter Island in San Diego, CA.  A vibrant sunset and a huge pelican (the first I have ever seen up close!)… It’s like color therapy for us East Coasters who are experiencing the cold and gray days of fall already!

Cause and Solution

Normally I would not put two images from two different places together, but this is an exception.  On the left, my brother, at Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis.  On the right, a sign, at The Duke of Wellington in London.  Both are on quaint little streets, both have a good atmosphere, and both server beer:  so do both cause and solve all problems? There’s only one way to find out.

No Dancing & No Holding Hands!

If you can explain to me why there is a no dancing sign on the streets of Rome & why there is a no holding hands sign (with children?) on the streets of Paris then you let me know!
